Teena Case
My artwork is a reflection of my life. It deals with the joy and struggles when walking with Christ. It is my praise to Him who gave me life and breath and everything else. It is inspired by the word of God. I pray that my work will draw others closer to Christ and encourage them to see how He is actively working in their life.
Found fabrics and paper form the foundation of my paintings. I feel the patterns and texture of fabric bring an element we can all relate to. It also brings a sense of history and ancestry to my work as I ponder where the materials came from. After adding fabric and texture to the piece, I then tone it with layers of color. My work is both additive and subtractive in approach. Upon inspiration, I decide what fabric should be revealed and what to paint over. I then add layers of color. Sometimes these color layers are thick and sometimes they are merely glazes. The final stage is scratching out or journaling in the painting to make it complete.
The patterns found in fabric and repetition of shapes and images reflect our daily lives which often fall into a pattern. Habits whether good or bad are repeated and things are also mimicked. My challenge to the viewer is to discover your patterns and tendencies and then alter them to make your life mimicked after the one who created it all, God. Then praise Him with all your heart, sing a song of joy to God who gave his one and only son as a sacrifice for us all so that through Jesus we might have eternal life. Thank you for viewing my work. To God be the glory!
I was educated at Iowa State University and received degrees in Biomedical Illustration and Fine Art with an emphasis in painting.
