Tall Iron Vases - David Coddaire

Meet David Coddaire of Tall Iron Vases, an Oakland, California sculptor who has turned his attention to interiors with a mad line of cabinets, pedestals, and vases. If it weren’t for gravity, these high-personality pieces might float heavenward.

But these undulating forms of cold-rolled steel with forged steel bases manifest a structural integrity that will keep them firmly rooted. Versatile, utilitarian, and interactive, they are ideal as accent pieces in any room. A cabinet may house either treasured or pedestrian objects. The walk-up vanity with its magnifying mirror is great in an entry way or a bedroom.

Finished with patinas and pigment washes that range from translucent and iridescent to opaque, the cabinets, pedestals, vases and bags boast a vibrant palette that highlights, not hides the iron.

Born in Massachusetts, Coddaire studied art in Venice, Italy and at the Kansas City Art Institute. His sculpture and printmaking work appears in galleries and collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. He also worked as a homebuilder and interior designer, largely in Marin County and throughout California.
