SHE who works with her hands is a laborer.
SHE who works with her hands & head is a craftsperson.
SHE who works with her hands, head & heart is an artist.
St. Francis of Assisi

And I do consider myself a fiber artist. Each piece is handcrafted by me with lots of "heart" stitched in.

Growing up in the 50's, I first experienced the joy of fabric at my grams' knee. She was an extremely talented seamstress and shared her joy with me. In the 60's I learned clothing construction and for years made many of my own clothes. In the 70's I found interest in stained glass design, making mirrors and windows for family and friends. It wasn't until the 80's that I followed my heart and began quilting. Initially by hand I created many of my own designs. As I grew in the art of quilt making, I felt limited and therefore explored quilting by machine. To my joy I found a passion for creating and designing. My love of color, the fun and excitement involved in picking and choosing fabrics and watching them come to life in a new piece provides a sense of joy.

Participating in juried art shows over the last several years has provided an opportunity to gain enthusiasm from the customers' comments on my work and to share my energy with them when they take a piece home. Teaching at local quilt shops allows me to share the fun and joy of color and the freedom to "be yourself" with the students.
