I have always been one to ask a lot of questions and an avid scrapbooker-what a great idea for an album, I thought!
The first album I designed was a baby book for my good friend who was pregnant with her first child. Not being a mom myself, I wanted a glimpse into her world of pregnancy and wanted to provide her son or daughter the chance to understand the journey his or her parents took through the pregnancy. What were they feeling, seeing, experiencing? But I didn't want just any flimsy paper book-I wanted to design a beautifully embellished album that would proudly be displayed and make people want to sit down and read over and over again. Not to mention, I wanted to make sure the books were archival safe.
From the baby book, other themes were developed. I thought, "There are so many other special life experiences and memories that need to be preserved for our family, children and future generations to enjoy and know."
This became an especially important mission to me after the recent death of my beloved grandfather - grandpa Carolus. After a person is no longer with us, we are not able to ask them to journal and preserve all their special life experiences and lessons, feelings and insights. "Now's the time to do it, I thought." We all have good intentions but we need to be called to take action! Life is just too short.
Everyone has a story to tell and experiences to share. If we do not take the time to sit down and preserve the precious memories and stories, what will our children, families and future generations know about us and learn from us?
