Gary Keener - G. Keener & Co.
G. Keener & Co. Furniture was established in the summer of 2000. The owner and craftsman, Gary Keener, has enjoyed woodworking since he was a small boy. He began his career teaching woodworking and drafting at a high school in Sandusky, Ohio. While teaching, he began making furniture on the side. He loved to see satisfied customers and treasured the relationships that were made through the process.
Deciding to give full-time business a try, he resigned from teaching and obtained a apprenticeship position with the well-known furniture maker M.T. Maxwell in Bedford, Virginia. He studied under Maxwell for a year where he refined his woodworking skills and designed his first line of furniture. At the Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishings Show in 2000, he helped M.T. Maxwell win the apprenticeship award given by the show. After completing his apprenticeship, Gary and his wife moved back to Ohio to set up shop. Coming full circle, G. Keener & Co. won the apprenticeship award at the Philadelphia show in 2004.
As our world thrusts forward with technology and the pace of life moves at light speed, G. keener & Co. still focuses on what withstands the test of time. Quality furniture that uses traditional joinery, hand-rubbed finishes, and solid North American hardwoods is the combination that creates a piece that will endure for generations. Our furniture is made one piece at a time by a single craftsman who takes great pride in the work he creates. The design of our furniture has influences from both the Shaker and the Arts & Crafts movements where emphasis was laid in simple lines, attention to details and functionality. Relationships between wood grain, joinery, finishes, and feel create a warmth in each piece that would be welcome in any room of your home. All of our furniture is backed by a lifetime guarantee.
